Therapy & Counseling

That Meets You
Where You Are

You have been feeling like you've been holding it together for a long time. At Bridges Mind and Body Psychotherapy, our therapists offers therapy and counseling rooted in the mind-body connection — built for those looking to change long lasting patterns of anxiety and emotional exhaustion.

This is not just a solution-focused practice. It is a space where healing actually begins.

The quiet thoughts

What Pain Sounds Like
Before Healing

Before people find the words to ask for help, they live inside thoughts that rarely get said out loud. If any of these feel familiar — you may benefit from this work.

"I'm tired even after sleeping."

"I overthink everything, including whether I overthink too much."

"I have no idea why I feel this broken."

"I keep pushing people away and I don't know how to stop."

"I don't feel sad exactly. I just don't feel anything anymore."

Our approach to therapy for depression and anxiety does not ask you to explain these thoughts perfectly.
It meets you inside them.

The Bridges Mind and Body Approach

Emotions do not live only in the mind. Trauma is stored in the body — in tension, in shutdown, in the nervous system responses that fire before thought even begins. Bridges Mind and Body Psychotherapy integrates somatic therapy, psychodynamic work, and nervous system healing into a single, coherent approach. Because psychotherapy that ignores the body is only telling half the story.

Psychotherapy that ignores the body is only telling half the story.

1

Mind Meets Body

We work with breath, sensation, and physical patterns alongside thought and emotion — because real regulation happens at both levels simultaneously.

Somatic Integration
2

Root Cause, Not Symptom Management

We do not just teach you to cope with pain. We help you understand where it came from — and how to slowly and safely release it.

Deep Processing

Psychotherapy that ignores the body is only telling half the story.

The People Behind the Practice

Founder/ LMFT

Joshua Pickett

Trauma Therapist

Joshua is a trauma therapist, founder of Bridges Mind and Body Psychotherapy, and someone who has spent over a decade believing that the relationship between therapist and client is itself a form of healing.

His Approach

Somatic, psychodynamic, and relational — with brainspotting and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy available where appropriate. Evidence-based without being cold. Clinical without losing the human.

Why Patients Trust Him

Because he listens before he leads. Because therapy here never moves faster than you are ready to go. Because in 10 years and 500+ lives supported across California, his consistency has been the one thing that never changes.

AMFT

Kristie Surendranath

Trauma Therapist

I work with individuals and couples navigating challenges related to self-worth, body image, grief, life transitions, anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship dynamics. I aim to create a space where you feel comfortable showing up exactly as you are, and where you are met with compassion and empathy. From there, we can explore what’s coming up for you at a pace that feels right and work toward the changes you’d like to see take place in your life. I’m an integrative therapist, meaning I draw from a range of approaches including psychodynamic and depth psychology, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), somatic awareness, and parts-based work. This allows us to understand your experiences from multiple angles while also offering different ways of working through whatever challenges arise. I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology and have a background in meditation, energy work, and fitness, which informs my holistic perspective on mental health.

Her Approach

I believe that we already hold the answers to many of the challenges we face, but they often become obscured by conditioning and painful experiences that dictate how we think, feel, and relate to ourselves and others. However, I don’t believe healing comes from pushing away the parts of ourselves we don’t like. Instead, it comes from learning how to meet those parts with tenderness and curiosity, and being open to what they may be trying to show us. I also see the body as an important pathway to healing. Our bodies have been present for every experience we’ve had, often holding onto what hasn’t been fully processed. By learning how to tune into and work with the body, we can access a different level of insight that goes beyond words. By utilizing various modalities such as parts-based work and somatic awareness, and combining them with practical tools, my goal is to support you in not only understanding yourself more deeply, but also relating to yourself and the world around you in a different way.

Why Patients Trust Her

After years of doing her own personal healing work, Kristie understands how challenging it can be to truly look within and come to know ourselves more deeply. She also knows that it's a process that takes time and deserves to be approached with patience and reverence. She considers it a privilege to be invited into someone else's inner world and to walk alongside them as they navigate their own journey.

What Makes Our Therapy Different

Most clinics manage symptoms. We pursue transformation. Surface-level coping teaches you to carry pain more efficiently. Our approach to therapy for anxiety and depression teaches you to finally set it down.

Conversation-only therapy reaches the mind. Nervous-system-aware healing reaches the place where the pain actually lives. That is the difference in our approach.

1

Feeling Safe

The first and most important thing. Nothing else is possible without it.

2

Understanding Your Triggers

Recognizing the patterns. Seeing them clearly for the first time.

3

Emotional Regulation

Gaining space between stimulus and response. Breathing through what used to consume you.

4

Reconnecting With Yourself

Remembering who you are outside of your pain.

5

Healthier Relationships

Showing up differently because you understand yourself differently.

6

Finding Calm

Not as an achievement. As a new normal.

Conditions and Experiences We Support

You do not need a diagnosis to deserve support. We work with anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional numbness, burnout, panic attacks, PTSD, relationship struggles, and the quiet erosion of self-worth that builds over years. If it is making your life smaller — it is worth bringing here.

Anxiety Depression Trauma Emotional Numbness Burnout Panic Attacks PTSD Relationship Struggles

You Do Not Have to Have It Together to Start

  • You do not need to have everything figured out. Healing does not require you to arrive prepared.

  • Starting therapy is not an admission of failure. It is the decision to stop carrying something alone that was never meant to be carried alone.

  • You do not need to be at your lowest point. Wherever you are right now is a valid place to begin.

You Have Carried This Long Enough.

There is a version of your life where the weight is lighter. Where the overthinking quiets. Where you feel like yourself again. That version is not out of reach. Bridges Mind and Body Psychotherapy in California can help you find your way back to it — one session, one step, one part of yourself at a time.
